According to a report from the Mirror, Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica in the summer transfer window.
Rashica came through the youth ranks at KF Vushtrria in his homeland of Kosovo. The 23-year-old made the switch to Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem in 2015. After making 100 appearances for the club, Rashica joined Werder Bremen in January 2018.
Having struggled so make much of an impact in 2017/18, Rashica impressed last season. The Kosovo international finished with 12 goals and 6 assists in 30 matches. He has built on those performances this term, producing a tally of 10 goals and 5 assists in 24 games in all competitions.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, have struggled on their return to the Premier League this season. The Midlands outfit are second from bottom in the league table, with just 25 points from 28 matches. As a result, they are staring at the prospect of relegation back to the Championship.
Lack of goals from their centre-forwards has been a major problem for Aston Villa this season. The club spent heavily on Wesley last summer, but the 23-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations. Moreover, the Brazilian picked up a cruciate ligament injury and is sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Aston Villa brought in reinforcements in the form of Mbwana Samatta and Borja Baston in January, but neither of them was able to make much of an impression before the Premier League season was suspended.
So, it becomes necessary for Aston Villa to strengthen their centre-forward department further ahead of next season, irrespective of whether they stay in the Premier League or get relegated.
And this is where Milot Rashica enters the picture. Despite Werder Bremen’s struggles, Rashica has been a standout performer. The 23-year-old has developed his game over the past couple of years. The fact that Premier League champions-elect Liverpool are also interested in Rashica (h/t Mirror) should be an indicator of the potential that the 23-year-old possesses.
Aston Villa’s lack of goals has been a problem this season, with the centre-forward department lacking enough quality and depth.
And that is why the Villans should make an attempt to sign Rashica in the summer. The 23-year-old has been a regular source of goals for Werder Bremen and should he carry that form forward, he would prove to a be a good addition for Aston Villa.
