Why Crystal Palace should make a move for the talented Eberechi Eze from QPR

In February, The Sun had claimed that Crystal Palace were monitoring Queens Park Rangers star Eberechi Eze.

The 21-year-old has been in scintillating form in the Championship this season. He has been one of the division’s outstanding players, netting 12 goals and supplying 8 assists in 37 appearances for Queens Park Rangers. The youngster really looks like he will be a star of the future and will clearly be hot property in the summer, especially if he continues to impress for QPR this season.

That being said, Crystal Palace must rekindle their interest in Eze when the transfer window opens in the summer.

The Eagles have had an inconsistent campaign, with injuries to key players majorly responsible for it. They are 11th in the table, having won three consecutive Premier League games, with the recent one coming against Watford.

One of the chief reasons for their inconsistency is the lack of goals. Palace have scored just 26 goals so far, which is the second-lowest tally in the top-flight this term. Jordan Ayew has been the rare bright spark in the attack and is the club’s top scorer with 8 goals, while Christian Benteke has managed to score only once in the league.

The likes of Wilfried Zaha, Andros Townsend and Luka Milivojevic have failed to live up to their usual standards this season. Cenk Tosun was brought on loan from Everton in January but a knee injury has ended his season. So Ayew deserves credit for leading the attack and supplying goals consistently for Hodgson’s side.

Considering the problems Palace have faced in scoring goals this season, Hodgson should prioritise reinforcing that area during the summer transfer window. And signing Eberechi Eze could be a good move for the South London outfit.

Eze has been one of the stars for QPR this season and given the level of quality and consistency that the youngster has displayed, it is not surprising to see him attract interest from Crystal Palace.

A No.10 by trade, the 21-year-old has proved his versatility by playing in various positions across midfield and attack under Mark Warburton. He is a creative player and would be a perfect fit at Selhurst Palace alongside the likes of Zaha and Townsend.

The England youth international has proven himself in the Championship and possesses the potential to thrive in the Premier League. If Eze continues to develop in this manner, he might be a good addition for Crystal Palace.

Verdict

Extracting the potential Eze has shown in QPR colours should be Hodgson’s job. The Palace boss cannot afford to let a prodigious talent slip away from his hands and should make plans to sign him before the start of the 2020/21 season.
