2021 F1 Dutch GP weather report: Will rain mess up the entire racing weekend at Zandvoort?
Racing should return to the Netherlands this weekend with the F1 Dutch Grand Prix zooming in at Zandvoort for the first time since 1985.
The race was to be held last year but Covid-19 poured water all over those plans. Max Verstappen is the home town hero and he is coming into the race with some form under his belt.
However, it wasn’t the kind of form he would be too pleased with. He was on pole at Spa last week and seemed set to win the race with George Russell keeping him away from standings leader Lewis Hamilton.
But a crazy downpour ended any hopes of a race taking place with very poor visibility. Verstappen did do a couple of laps behind the safety car but the race was ended and half points were awarded to the top 10 with Max getting only 12.5.
He cut Hamilton’s lead down by five points, and the Dutch star will be hoping that this GP isn’t affected this much by rain.
The good news for Verstappen, the other F1 racers and the Dutch fans is that rain isn’t expected throughout the race weekend.
Downpours are expected on Monday but the weather report at the Circuit Zandvoort is expected to be cloudy with little chance of rain.
Day | AM | PM |
---|---|---|
Friday | Cloudy, 14°C | Cloudy, 17°C |
Saturday | Cloudy, 14°C | Cloudy, 17°C |
Sunday | Cloudy, 13°C | Some sun, 21°C |
The F1 championship lead has gone back and forth between Hamilton and Verstappen since the start of the season.
Hamilton might be leading now after Verstappen struggled to score in Hungary after Valtteri Bottas wiped out several names.
Verstappen also had to retire from the British GP after contact with Hamilton, and it will be interesting to see how things work out at Zandvoort.
Verstappen should be the favourite for this race but Hamilton cannot be counted out. Zandvoort should be another exciting race and a little rain could really mix things up, unlike Spa which was a frustrating race for the fans and the racers too.
