Arsenal 0 – 2 Manchester City: Pep Guardiola’s men run amok at Emirates Stadium
Defending Premier League champions Manchester City have gotten off to a winning start by beating Arsenal 0-2 at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
It was a tad odd to see a different manager in the Arsenal dugout. Unai Emery did well as he tried to rally his team but the Gunners need to work towards improving on numerous facets. During the game, Arsenal and Manchester City were as different as chalk and cheese, which goes to show the exemplary work Guardiola has done at Etihad Stadium.
Raheem Sterling scored the first goal of the game which immediately placed the visitors in the driving seat. To further solidify the lead, Bernardo Silva scored a screamer in the second half to secure all of three points for the Sky Blues.
Arsenal did show a few signs of promise but all in all, they failed to launch any sort of challenge for the powerful title-holders.
Hector Bellerin did get close to scoring for the Londoners but Ederson completed a fine save. The resultant counter-attack by City almost saw Sergio Aguero net a goal but thankfully for Arsenal, that did not happen.
Regardless, Manchester City were splendid in every aspect of the game. They attacked sharply, defended like a dream and their midfielders clearly outplayed their Arsenal counterparts. Guardiola’s champions were also quite impressive on the counter-attack, making life tough for Emery and his men.
Arsenal have a lot of work to do and they must go back to the drawing board after this game. But as far as City are concerned, they have begun their title defence on the right note and how!
Manchester City fans made a lot of noise on Twitter as well and here are some of the best reactions:
Man City are the best team in the league, it’s not even close. Pep is the best manager in the world, it’s not even close.

City’s defending in this second half is best described as ‘sarcastic’, yet Arsenal have still found ways not to score (or even hit the target) #mcfc #afc

#pep giving Bernardo a chance? Also think it’s a bit worrying for Sane that Sterling is straight into the team without a pre season! Is there a problem with Sane attitude blues or is he being saved? #mcfc

There is a huge difference in confidence levels #Sterling plays with in a #mcfc shirt and #eng shirt
