Three free agents Wolves can sign this January

Wolves have made a decent start in the Premier League. They held champions Manchester City and Everton to draws, before snatching a late winner against West Ham to grab their win in the top-flight.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has shown us that he is a tactical genius and possesses the ability to extract the best out of his players. The Portuguese’s tactical tweaks ensured that Wolves played one of the most attractive brands of football in the Championship last season.

To go with his acumen, the manager was backed by financial resources to a large extent this summer. Wolves splashed the cash to secure the services of Ruben Neves last season and signed players like Joao Moutinho, Rui Patricio and Adama Traore this summer. The loan deal for Diogo Jota was also made permanent.

Most of the transfers have been possible due to the manager’s Portuguese connections. The good thing is that the new signings have all hit the ground running. However, Santo should look to bolster his squad with the acquisition of some free agents in January. Here are three realistic options:

Samir Nasri

The former Arsenal and Manchester City superstar has been a forgotten figure since leaving Manchester City in 2017. He is serving a doping ban right now.

The 31-year-old joined La Liga club Sevilla on loan from Manchester City and then moved to Turkish club Antalyaspor. However, his contract was mutually terminated in January 2018. Nasri was then charged with a doping ban, which has kept him out of action.

Since Nasri would be available in November, Wolves should look to sign him up. A versatile attacking midfielder, Nasri can play in any position in the attacking third and his experience of having played in the Premier League will be resourceful.

Bakary Sako

The Malian international missed the last four months of last season with an ankle injury. Despite that, it was a surprise to see him get released by Crystal Palace having previously shown good form under Roy Hodgson.

Injuries were a regular problem for Sako at Selhurst Park, restricting him to 50 appearances in three years. However, when fit, the 30-year-old has proved himself as an asset in the Premier League.

The forward previously impressed in the Championship with Wolves, scoring 15 goals in 43 appearances in his final season at the club. For that, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

A versatile winger, Sako is capable of cutting inside from the left and influence the game with his pace, passing and shooting. He would be a vital addition to the squad alongside the likes of Diogo Jota and Helder Costa.

Guiseppe Rossi

The former Manchester United man left Genoa at the end of the 2017/18 season and is currently without a club. That comes as a bit of a surprise considering his good scoring record in the La Liga for Villareal.

The 31-year-old was also a part of Italy’s national team in his earlier days and should have another 3 or 4 years of football left in him. A man no stranger to the Premier League, Wolves should look to lure the Italian to the Molineaux as his experience and composure in front of goal could be resourceful to the team.
