Three reasons why Frank Lampard can lead Derby County back to the Premier League

The internet was set on fire as soon as Frank Lampard was announced as Derby County‘s new manager. The 40-year-old Chelsea legend retired as a player in 2016, following his last stint with Major League Soccer club New York City FC. Handing over the manager’s hat to Lampard, it is evident that Derby mean business ahead of the new season.

Derby County have been waiting for a decade to get back to the Premier League, having played their last top-flight game back in the 2007/08 season. With a three-year contract under his belt, Lampard must get his team back to the highest level of English football.

The prospect seems to be a distant dream but with one of the greatest midfielders at the helm, the dream might come true next season. Now, let us take at look at the reasons why Lampard is the right man to lead Derby County back into the Premier League.

Frank Lampard: One of the greatest of the game

No matter how good one is on a football pitch, the player will get bogged down by critics and journalists. But, Lampard is one of those few footballers who was hailed by both the critics and scribes as one of the greatest midfielders of the generation.

True to their words, Lampard’s records on the pitch speak for itself. He is one of those rare players who were successful while playing for both the country as well the club. The fact that he represented his country in over 100 matches is no joke, but he did it with admirable ease.

Having played over 600 games in the Premier League, Lampard is only next to Gareth Barry and Ryan Giggs for the most number of appearances. With 211 goals for Chelsea in all competition, he is the most successful goalscorer of all times for the Blues. Moreover, he has won the Premier League title as well as the Champions League title.

Worked with some of the best managers of all time

People who are criticizing Lampard for his lack of managerial experience seem to have forgotten that he was a part of some of the biggest clubs in English football, managed by some of the greatest minds of the game. Be it Carlo Ancelotti or Jose Mourinho, Lampard has shared the dressing room with a good number of exceptional geniuses.

Thus, he would definitely have an idea of how things work. There are no second thoughts that he will come out all gun blazing and prove his doubters wrong.

A young and approachable manager

It’s not often that fans get to see a person as young as Lampard donning the gaffer’s hat for a prominent club in one of the toughest leagues in the world. In fact, Derby’s players should feel comfortable to approach Lampard, thanks to his age.

The former Chelsea star must strive to build a good rapport with his side. With a wealth of experience and numerous trophies in his bag, the explosive midfielder will surely make the right noise in the upcoming Championship season.
