Three players Tottenham could sign to provide cover for talisman Harry Kane

There is no denying that England captain Harry Kane has been instrumental for Tottenham in the last couple of seasons. Although South Korean international Son Heung-Min often stepped up to ease some pressure off Kane’s shoulder, Tottenham boss Pochettino must strengthen his attacking options this summer.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have a squad capable of competing in all fronts but they need an extra edge that can turn them from perennial contenders to winners.

To achieve this, Pochettino must reduce his side’s reliance on Kane. The Englishman scored 41 goals and provided five assists in 48 matches for Spurs last season. He helped the north London side to a top-four finish, the FA Cup semi-final and a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 appearance against Italian giants Juventus.

To build on last season, Spurs need to find the last piece of their puzzle – a striker capable of playing as Kane’s understudy. Below, we look at three strikers who could add a new dimension to the striking department at White Hart Lane.

 Moussa Dembele

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has already been linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer. The 21-year-old is a specialist centre-forward who can also play as a secondary striker. The pacy attacker would pose an attacking threat that Tottenham clearly need and while offering a new dimension in the final third coming off the bench.

Last season, Dembele bagged 16 goals and assisted nine goals in 39 matches to help the Bhoys to a historic double-treble. He has quickly established himself as one of Celtic’s attacking outlets and a move south would provide him with the stage he needs to become a world-class player.

Wilfried Zaha

Zaha just signed a five-year contract at Selhurst Park last summer. In fact, his performances helped Crystal Palace survive relegation last season. The versatile 25-year-old is often deployed on the right flank but he can also play as a centre-forward when needed.

That said, Spurs must table a tremendously improved bid to sign Palace’s most prized asset. Zaha has close to a decade’s experience of playing either in the Championship or in the Premier League. The right-footed forward has over 130 top-flight appearances to his name and would bring a lot of experience and trickery to this Tottenham side.

Timo Werner

Werner endured a nightmarish World Cup title defence in Russia as Die Mannschaft failed to progress from their group. However, the academy graduate from hometown club Stuttgart fits the bill to not only play as an understudy but also offer competition for a place in the starting lineup.

The 22-year-old forward has established himself as one of Europe most promising attackers since his move to RB Leipzig two summers ago.

From scoring an average 13 goals in 95 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart in three seasons, Werner has recorded 34 goals in 63 matches in two seasons for Leipzig. The versatile forward can also play on either wing.

Convincing him to join Tottenham would be a statement of intent from Pochettino. If they can complete a deal for Werner, it would definitely make him their marquee signing.
