Thorgan Hazard might be an ideal option for Leicester City in January

According to a previous report from Leicester Mercury, Thorgan Hazard was linked with a move to Leicester City in the summer as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez who departed the club to join Manchester City.

However, the Foxes ultimately dropped out of the race and signed Rachid Ghezzal from AS Monaco and James Maddison from Norwich City.

While Maddison has quickly established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet, Ghezzal has found himself in and out of the starting eleven. Maddison has been impressive this season and earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

It has been a topsy-turvy tale so far for the Foxes this season. With four wins and five losses from their first nine games, Claude Puel’s men sit 11th in the Premier League standings. Despite showing a lot of promise, they have only managed only two clean sheets so far. In other words, they haven’t been consistent enough like Wolves and Bournemouth and that is quite evident from the standings.

Thorgan Hazard started his career in the Ligue 1 with Lens and was signed by Chelsea back in 2012. However, he failed to make a single competitive appearance at the senior level for the Blues and spent time on loan at Belgian club Zulte Waregen where he racked up 19 goals and 19 assists during the 2013-14 season. Later in the 2014-15 season, he was loaned out to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach and after a series of impressive performances, the German club made his stay permanent.

Although he has been largely overshadowed by the success of his elder brother Eden Hazard, the 25-year-old has reached new heights since his move to the Bundesliga. He registered as many as 10 goals and 5 assists in the Bundesliga last term and has hit the ground running this season as well.

With 4 goals and 3 assists from 8 appearances so far this season, a move back to the Premier League is definitely on the cards for the Belgian. In fact, it would do Leicester City a world of good if they reignite their interest in the creative midfielder.

A player blessed with sound technique, silky dribbling skills and remarkable vision, Hazard is capable of playing in multiple positions in the final third. Not only can he play on either flank as a winger but can also play as a playmaker behind the striker or even a second striker in a two-man attack.

His blistering pace makes him a potent counter-attacking threat from the wings or through the centre. The Belgian excels with his tactical awareness and has the tendency to draw the defenders out of their positions, which in turn creates spaces for his teammates to exploit. The 25-year-old is also a good passer of the ball and has a keen eye for a cross. Furthermore, he is a good finisher and has remarkable abilities during direct set-pieces.

To put things into perspective, Leicester need a playmaker in their ranks. Granted, they have James Maddison who has surpassed all expectations but having a versatile creative midfielder will definitely give the manager a cushion, particularly in the latter stages of the season when the injuries creep in.
