When you’ve gotten your fill of all that, however, you might be looking for a few summer films that maintain the summertime atmosphere while providing the conveniences of air conditioning.
These films are certain to satisfy your needs, and they range from heart-warming comedies to suspenseful thrillers, so maybe there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Great Movies to watch in the summer
1987’s Dirty Dancing
Dramatic, musical, and romantic. Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, and Jerry Orbach are the stars. Emile Ardolino was the director.
Dirty Dancing is one of the hottest blockbusters ever produced with very little actual sex, telling the tale of a summer of forbidden love between the daughter of a wealthy New York City family and a down-on-his-luck dance instructor.
The film succeeds because of the electric chemistry that exists between Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze and because it knows how to play up the stars’ sexual chemistry. Although the final lift is famous for a reason, the dancing is top-notch throughout the entire film, making it one of the best on a list of great dance films that is, admittedly, not very long.
Jaws (1975)
Horror, suspense, and adventure. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss are the stars. Steven Spielberg was the director.
Jaws might not be the best movie to see before you go to the beach this summer. But even now, over 50 years after Jaws debuted in theatres, it’s still one of Steven Spielberg’s unquestionably best pictures. It describes how a little Massachusetts village came to be terrorized by an unusually tenacious and evil shark.
The film has a trio of famous central performances, and it remains just as spooky as when it originally debuted in theatres. However, Spielberg’s camera is the real hero, and Jaws is what made us all familiar with his name.
MidSommar (2019)
Horror, drama, and mystery genres. Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, and William Jackson Harper are the stars. Ari Aster is the director.
Midsommar, a fantastic film about the tyranny of daylight, centers on a traumatized young woman who journeys to a village in Sweden where the sun never sets with her boyfriend and his pals.
Even if the events that follow her arrival are terrifying and gory, the movie’s intrinsic pleasure comes from the fact that they occur against Sweden’s stunning scenery. Midsommar, one of the best horror films from company A24, bends and perverts the beauty of the natural environment right up until the film’s shocking conclusion. Additionally, it solidified Florence Pugh’s status as a generational talent.
Wet, Humid summer in America (2001)
Variety: Comedy. Michael Showalter, David Hyde Pierce, and Janeane Garofalo are the stars. David Wain is the director.
Wet Hot American Summer is just a collection of lengthy, interconnected sketches, and each of those pieces is brutally clever. It takes place at a summer camp that would probably be rather terrible to attend.
Wet Hot American Summer is funny in a way that most contemporary comedies no longer dare to be. It stars an all-star cast of comedic talents in the early stages of their careers, including Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum of Solace’s Paul Rudd. Is it foolish? Yes. But there is no need to search further if you want a movie that will make you laugh until you cry.
