Four time NBA All Star Kemba Walker has signed a contract with the Dallas Mavericks as the Mavs try and help Luka Doncic win the NBA Championship.
The Dallas Mavericks have had a season filled with highs and lows. While the highs in their season all center around their talisman Luka Doncic who has had an extraordinary season for the Mavericks so far this season, the lows also revolve around him as despite having the season he is having, Doncic has received negligible help from his Mavericks support cast.
The Slovenian forward is one of the early contenders for the Most Valuable Player award through his performances this season, averaging 33.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game this season – the Dallas Mavericks currently sit at a 11th place on the Western Conference rankings with a 9-10 record this season, sitting outside the Playoff qualification places.
Therefore, it only made sense for the Mavericks to go in for some good support for Doncic in order to get the most out of the team and their talisman. It turns out that the Mavs have signed four time All Star Kemba Walker, as the Detroit Pistons player has been linked with the Mavericks this season according to several NBA insiders.
While Marc Stein initially reported that the Mavericks are in for the veteran guard, the story has since been reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
It’s been a year of uncertainty for Walker, who was traded to the Detroit Pistons in a salary dump from the New York Knicks. It came after he was shut down for the season in February. In October, the Pistons waived him in a move that cost the team $9.2 million.
It has to be said that Walker’s time in New York was mostly a disappointment, jumping in and out of rotation while struggling with consistency and injuries. Walker finished the year averaging 11.6 points and 3.5 assists per game in 37 appearances, but it was not enough to repay the $17.9million splashed on him. However, he adds scoring and necessary depth to the Mavs’ backcourt.
