WrestleMania has seen some of the greatest superstars performing in the main event, including Stone Cold, The Rock, John Cena etc. Here are the 5 biggest main-event matches in the history of WrestleMania.
1.WrestleMania 23: John Cena (c) vs Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship
One of the most fascinating main events matches at WrestleMania, where John Cena entered his fancy car breaking through the glass. Another thing that stood out was how the crowd was behind Shawn Michaels.
The match went for half an hour with some epic moves and guts from the Superstars. There were several near falls and some breathtaking moments during the game.
HBK almost took the game from the hand of Cena, but as we all know, the latter never gave up, and eventually, Cena took the victory in the end.
2. WrestleMania XIX: Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle (c) for the WWE Undisputed Championship
Probably the most excellent main-event pure wrestling matchup in the history of WWE. Brock Lesnar is a two time NCAA champion and Kurt Angle, an Olympian Gold Medalist. Both men went above their capabilities in this match.
This proved to everyone what these superstars can do. The stand out of the match will be the Shooting Star Press by Lesnar in the end. Both Superstars gave their best shot, and we’re not ready to give up like that. In the end, Lesnar picked up the victory but was undoubtedly one of the greatest matches ever in WrestleMania history.
3. WrestleMania VI: The Ultimate Warrior vs Hulk Hogan (c) for the WWF Championship
We all know how great this Ultimate matchup was, basically a “passing of the torch” by Hulk Hogan to the Ultimate Warrior as the next face of wrestling.
The match featured one of the most impactful moves from both sides, with the Ultimate Warrior coming in with total energy with the experience of the Hulkamania.
It still holds one of the hottest crowds ever and one of the most memorable matches in WrestleMania history. Eventually, the match was won by The Ultimate Warrior.
4. WrestleMania XXVI: The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels in a Streak vs Career match.
Even though their clash at the WrestleMania 25 is still considered the greatest, this was not much behind and still was one of the greatest matches of all time.
The match saw HBK kicking out of multiple tombstones, which happened for the first time ever, and some people could sense that the streak could end actually, but he fell just short against The Deadman.
HBK remained retired after this match, which was felt inside the arena among the fans as they really thought that this could be Michael’s last match.
5. WrestleMania XV: Stone Cold vs The Rock (c) for the WWF Title
This was the first of three epic encounters between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock at WrestleMania. The buildup for the match was massive considering how Vince McMahon won the Royal Rumble, and then Austin defeated McMahon to win a shot at the Main Event of WrestleMania XV.
The match was neck to neck as both superstars improvised their own best moves and kicked out of near falls. The Rock kicked out of the Stunner, and Stone Cold kicked out of the Rock Bottom and attempted each other’s special moves. The match saw multiple referees getting knocked out.
But in the end, Stone Cold went above the odds and got the victory even with Vince being in Rock’s corner.
