Premier League 2019-20: Top 5 goal contributors so far

With 17 rounds of football already done and dusted, the 2019-20 season of the Premier League is shaping up nicely as we enter into the busy Christmas period.

It is well-documented that emotions run high in football and there has hardly ever been a season of Premier League football without loads and drama and excitement.

To that end, the ongoing campaign has certainly had a lot on offer for all sets of fans to savor and admire and that’s surely set to continue in the coming months as we start to get down to the business end.

With that in mind, let us take a look at the top five goal contributors in the 2019-20 Premier League season so far.

1. Jamie Vardy- 19 (16 goals, 3 assists)

From a non-league rookie to an England international and a Premier League icon, Jamie Vardy’s meteoric rise in English football continues to be an inspirational tale for all up and coming footballers on the planet.

Currently playing in his fifth season in the Premier League, the 32-year-old has been ripping it up for the Foxes this term, having already gained considerable ground on his nearest rivals in the race for the Golden Boot award.

With a tally of 16 goals and 3 assists, Vardy has fired Leicester City up to second in the Premier League standings, just behind pace-setters Liverpool.

2. Tammy Abraham- 14 (11 goals, 3 assists)

The Chelsea academy graduate has grabbed his opportunities with both hands this term, benefitting from Frank Lampard’s reliance on youth to cope with the transfer embargo at Stamford Bridge.

Having bagged back-to-back braces against Sheffield United and Norwich City back in August, the 22-year-old followed it up with a hat-trick in a 5-2 demolition of Wolves in September and he hasn’t looked back since then.

With double digits beside his name already, the youngster has turned into a reliable source of goals for Chelsea in the Premier League this season and his newly-found status as a full England international lies testament to his incredible rise to fame.

3. Marcus Rashford- 14 (10 goals, 4 assists)

Well, Rashford has been around for quite a while now and it’s really hard to believe that he is still only 22. Despite United’s rather inconsistent start to the campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskajer, the Red Devils academy graduate has been simply outstanding, racking up an impressive tally of 10 goals and 4 assists.

The Englishman hasn’t always been at the top of his game like some of the other inclusions in the list but he has spearheaded a rather tame-looking attack at Old Trafford with real confidence, while also illustrating his quality in front of goal on numerous occasions.

Having recently scored in victories over Tottenham and Man City, Rashford looks high on confidence heading into the business end of the season for Man United.

Sadio Mane has been a key driving force behind Liverpool’s surge to the top of the standings in the Premier League (Getty Images)

4. Sadio Mane – 13 (9 goals, 4 assists)

Having banged in 22 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League last season and shared the Golden Boot with Salah and Aubameyang, Mane has once again been truly sensational for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite not being an out-and-out centre-forward, the Senegal international boasts of an envious scoring record in the Premier League and he has once again been at the centre of a lot of good things that Liverpool have achieved this season.

With Liverpool currently 14 points clear of Man City atop the standings, the Reds’ long wait for a domestic title finally seems to be coming to an end and Mane will continue to hold the key for Klopp’s army along with Salah and Firmino in the coming months.

Harry Kane is yet to hit top gear this season but has already racked up 9 goals so far (Getty Images)

5. Harry Kane- 11 (9 goals, 2 assists)

We have become so accustomed to seeing the England captain rack up more than 20 goals every season that it’s somewhat disturbing to find him languishing so far down the list.

Indeed, Kane hasn’t been at his best so far this season but a tally of 9 goals isn’t all that bad even by his lofty standards, considering that Tottenham have struggled for consistency.

However, he seems to have found his stride under new manager Jose Mourinho, as exemplified by his brace against Burnley and Kane continues to hold the key to Spurs’ chances of securing yet another top-four finish in the Premier League.
