Charlotte Flair made her last appearance in WWE at the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view. She failed to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship in a highly-appreciated match against Ronda Rousey.
The Charlotte-Rousey match at WrestleMania Backlash was an “I Quit” match. Rousey made Charlotte utter the words “I quit” when she used a steel chair to lock in an armbar. It was later revealed by Kayla Braxton that Flair had suffered a fracture to the radius. Fightful had reported that the injury was kayfabe and it was done to help the Queen take some time off.
Flair used the break to tie the knot with her fiance and AEW Superstar Andrade El Idolo. The couple got engaged back in January 2020.
Now that the two lovebirds have returned from their honeymoon and Andrade has returned to AEW Dynamite, fans are expecting Flair to make her comeback to WWE as well. While it is still not confirmed when we will get to see the former SmackDown Women’s Champion back inside the squared circle, we take a look at 5 Superstars who she could battle upon her return.
5. Aliyah
Aliyah is one of the most talented women on the SmackDown roster. She has the exuberance of youth and can become a stellar superstar going forward. Aliyah has faced Charlotte Flair on a few occasions till now. The 27-year-old has also faced Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in live events.
Aliyah can begin a long-term feud with the veteran Charlotte Flair and it could be a great boost for the youngster’s career. A pay-per-view win against Flair will do a world of good for the Canadian star.
4. Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks and Naomi are indefinitely suspended from WWE after walking out of an episode of RAW. However, they could be brought back into the mix soon because they are exceptional performers and fans are firmly behind them. Banks and Flair have a lot of history between them. They have competed in some of the greatest matches in WWE involving women.
Fans had expected the Boss to face Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 38 but things changed when Ronda Rousey returned to win the Women’s Royal Rumble match. The Baddest Woman on the Planet picked Flair as her opponent for The Show of Shows and the rest is history. Many fans were left disappointed to see Banks randomly teaming up with Naomi and challenging for the Women’s Tag Team Championship instead of the world title, especially, after delivering a classic match last year at WrestleMania against Bianca Belair.
If Banks and Flair return to have a feud, it is certainly going to be one of the better non-title rivalries in the women’s division in recent times.
3. Ronda Rousey
Charlotte Flair managed to retain her title against Rousey at WrestleMania 38 but failed to do so at WrestleMania Backlash. The 13-time World Champion might have a rematch against Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
However, we do not expect her to win back the title from Rousey, at least in the next few months. Flair could take a loss against Rousey and move on to a newer challenge. If we get to see another Flair versus Rousey showdown, it will certainly be another brutal and thrilling match as the two competitors rarely disappoint.
2. Lacey Evans
Well, it seems after shuffling from SmackDown to RAW and then back, Evans is finally settled on the blue brand. The former Sassy Southern Belle had a personal rivalry brewing with Charlotte Flair during her first stint in WWE. Evans and Flair both were a part of RAW back then. Ric Flair was involved in the storyline. Evans began flirting with the Nature Boy and the two-time Hall of Famer played along. This infuriated Charlotte and she was all set to have a heated rivalry with Evans until the former APW World Heavyweight Champion announced that she was pregnant. Her real-life pregnancy was incorporated into a storyline as Ric Flair was implied to be the father.
Eventually, the storyline was dropped as Evans took time off to become a mother for the second time. She recently returned to WWE and is yet to wrestle. However, things have changed between then and now. Evans has ditched her old gimmick and is now a babyface, while Flair is a heel. Exactly opposite of when these two last time feuded in WWE. This could be a great match between two fine athletes.
1. Bayley
According to various reports, Bayley has recovered from the torn ACL injury she suffered last year while training at the WWE Performance Center. Her return seems to be around the corner. Bayley has also teased her return a number of times on her Twitter handle. Recently she had posted a picture of her wrestling boots to keep the fans guessing.
If the Role Model makes her comeback and it coincides with Charlotte’s return, WWE might be inclined to have the two veterans enter into a feud. Bayley and Flair go back a long way. They have had spectacular matches since their days in NXT. Fans will certainly be thrilled at the prospect of seeing them brawl once again.
Who could Charlotte Flair face if she returns to RAW?
The former NXT Women’s Champion defeated Alexa Bliss at Extreme Rules last year. However, after the match, she destroyed Bliss’ doll, Lily. Bliss took a long break after that match and fans speculated that when she returns, she will look for revenge on Flair. However, Bliss was drafted to RAW upon her return while Flair was on SmackDown.
If WWE brings back Flair on the red brand, a feud with Bliss will not need too much of a build-up as the storyline is already set. Bliss has been on fire since her return, having won all four of her singles matches and her first loss came this week in a Fatal-4-way match.
