5 worst eye pokes in UFC history as Belal Muhammad suffers eye injury vs Leon Edwards

3) Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira

Jon Jones is considered as one of the greatest MMA talents of all-time. He was untouchable during his time as a Light Heavyweight and as the champion too.

However, there were several controversies surrounding Jones inside and outside the ring. One tactic that he uses is bringing out an open palm to control distance and deal with punches.

Invariably that leads to eye pokes, something that Glover Teixeira felt the full force of in UFC 172. This fight was for the Light Heavyweight title and Jones won, but not before he poked Teixeira several times in the eye.

Jones has spoken about this in the past and even Dana White suggested this would be dealt with.

The UFC great even opened up on the Teixeira incident and shared his side of the story:

“I realize that I do it. I realize the criticism that I got from it. It’s not on purpose. If you watch my fights, it’s me extending my arm in a reactionary way. I do put a hand on people’s foreheads to maintain distance.

“That’s what you saw [against] Teixeira, but to say I am purposely poking people in the eye, it’s just inaccurate.”
