The best way to solve puzzles in the Umbral Realm is to use the Lamp. The Lantern has a special skill and you can use it to Soulflay enemies and structures. You can create a path and cross terrains easily.

To complete puzzles in Umbral, you have to increase your strength, vitality and other stats by spending vestige seeds. This will increase your attacks and defense. You can play co-operatively as well. After completing a mission, ensure you have enough rest at Vestige to retrieve  health and stamina. Make use of spells, gauntlets and status effects to counter monsters. You can also Soulflay enemies and utilize the wither damage effects to temporarily stun them.

Puzzles in Umbral Realm are non-optional and you have to complete them to progress and get the best endings. Once you complete a chapter, you can teleport to Axiom by resting at Vestige Seedlings.
