Tottenham vs Manchester City Ratings: Spurs Player Ratings + Reaction
Tottenham huffed and puffed their way to a rather important 1-0 victory against Manchester City in the 1st leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. In what was the first ever European encounter in their new state of the art stadium, despite continued City dominance, Spurs were able to grab a slender lead through Son Heung-Min.
Manchester City dominated the encounter in terms of possession for most parts but the threat of Spurs on the break was causing Pep Guardiola his fair share of headaches. With Spurs’ goal coming completely against the run of play in the 78th minute, City weren’t able to produce a response in time and have it all to do in the return fixture.
Here are the Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings:
Hugo Lloris 9
Stepped up for his team when they most needed him as his first-half penalty save from Sergio Aguero was a turning point.
Kieran Trippier 8
Worked his socks off from the first minute of the game and made Riyad Mahrez look quite ineffective at times.
Toby Alderweireld 7
Commandeered the defence well and didn’t allow the City attackers any room to work their usual magic.
Jan Vertonghen 7
The Belgian had a good game at the back and did extremely well while dealing with crosses into the box.
Danny Rose 7
Was rather unfortunate to give away the penalty and has his goalkeeper to thank for saving him some blushes.
Harry Winks 7
Did well in the middle of the park and tried to get on the ball whenever Spurs were able to turn over the ball.
Moussa Sissoko 8
The midfield destroyer was on fire as he seemed to find an extremely tank of energy in the final knockings of the game.
Dele Alli 7
He was a bystander for large periods but was a constant threat whenever Spurs got the ball on the counter.
Christian Eriksen 7
Couldn’t affect the game quite as much as he would’ve liked but did well to control the pace of the game.
Heung Min-Son 8
Didn’t have the greatest outing in all fairness but stepped up when his team needed him and got the crucial goal.
Harry Kane 7
He wasn’t quite his usual sharp self today and a challenge from Fabian Delph forced him out with an ankle knock.
Substitutes
Lucas Moura 7
Used his pace well on the tiring City backline and tried to create opportunities to score another goal.
Victor Wanyama 7
Did well in midfield after coming on and really helped Spurs toughen up and see out this important win.
