Manchester City started the Premier League season on a strong note, winning 14 out of 17 games after their record-breaking season last year. But lately, the wind seems to have run out of their sails. Despite their brilliant performances, they still sit behind leaders Liverpool. The Reds have matched them in almost every aspect and have given the club from Manchester a run for their money, having managed 54 points from 20 games.
David Silva has often helped the team to dictate games and assert the same magnitude of dominance with which they played last year. To be fair, Kevin De Bruyne’s absence due to injuries have caused them a little discomfort in terms of offensive fluidity.
With Silva already 32, their options in the attacking midfield might be relatively limited in the future. Although City can do well without signing an attacking player with the talent available at their disposal, they certainly wouldn’t want to miss out on the chance to sign a player of Isco’s quality.
As per Daily Express, City are interested in the talented midfielder but it must also be noted that he has a staggering £620million release clause. Regardless, City can’t afford to have their foot off the pedal during the season with multiple competitions to play in and must not miss out on the chance to sign a top player like the Spaniard.
Isco seems to have grown unsettled with his omissions in the recent games by Madrid’s interim manager Santiago Solari and was also jeered for his performance from his own fans in the stands (h/t Daily Express) and thus, might be looking to start afresh somewhere else.
If City manage to pull this particular transfer off and are able to take advantage of this situation and bring the 26-year-old to the Etihad, it would be considered a big coup. It would not only send a message across to the top clubs in Europe but would also add greater quality to Manchester City’s attacking arsenal.
Despite the hefty price-tag, City should certainly consider a signing of this magnitude which could help them compete at the top level on a consistent basis. In addition, Isco would easily fit into Pep Guardiola’s philosophy and would be a top addition to an already excellent squad. Everyone knows how good Isco can be when he is hitting top form and Guardiola can certainly help in bringing the best out of the Spaniard and reach his full potential.
Signing him wouldn’t be as straightforward though since Isco still has three years left on his current contract. As a result, Real Madrid would have the upper hand in the negotiations. But if Guardiola can pull this off, City could become unstoppable.
