Why Everton must beat Tottenham to sign Kieran Tierney

According to a report by Daily Mail, Everton are set to join the race for Celtic sensation Kieran Tierney. The Telegraph has claimed that they are willing to shell out a fee in the region of £25million to acquire his services. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in a move for the sensational Scottish youngster and that could spark a bidding war between the two Premier League outfits.

However, given the circumstances, it would be beneficial for the player as well as the club if he were to join the Toffees and snub Tottenham. The Lilywhites already have Danny Rose and Ben Davies at their disposal and it is rather odd for Mauricio Pochettino to register an interest in the first place.

As far as Everton are concerned, they have been crying out for a player of Tierney’s calibre. Their veteran left-back Leighton Baines is on the wrong side of 30 and he cannot be a regular starter for the club.

His performances have declined to a great extent and Everton simply cannot continue with him being the first-choice left-back. Hence, they must delve into the transfer window to sign a new full-back. And who better than Tierney to spark the dawn of a new era under Marco Silva?

The youngster has been lauded time and again for his marauding displays on the left-hand side. He was a force to reckon with for Celtic last season and played a key role in their historic double treble.

The 21-year-old is truly the definition of a modern-day full-back. He can attack and defend with equal gusto and is known for supplying some delicious crosses into the box. In fact, Everton’s attackers could thrive off Tierney’s contributions from the back. In addition to that, he also has an eye for scoring goals.

He played a starring role for Celtic and is easily one of their most promising players right now. In fact, over the course of the previous campaign, the youngster managed to chip in with 4 goals and a solitary assist. As far as his defensive prowess is concerned, Tierney made an average of 2 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game.

As the numbers suggest, he is a beast of a left-back and he would go a long way in filling Baines’ void at Everton. Tierney is quite versatile as well and can play either on the left-hand side of the midfield or even as a central defender.

That would truly provide some depth for the Everton squad in general and the youngster could be a viable option in the years to come. Thus, the Toffees must do everything they can to ward off attention from Tottenham and swoop in for Tierney. He can only improve further from here on and Everton are in desperate need of a player like him.
