The 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard locks horns with the world No. 230 Renata Zarazua in the round of 32 in Abierto Tampico.
The Canadian tennis pro returned to action at the WTA 125 event in Vancouver in August after recovering from injury. It hasn’t been smooth sailing thus far for the former world No. 5. She lost in her comeback match in Vancouver and failed to qualify for the main draw at the US Open. Her best result this season came in the Chennai Open where she made it to the quarterfinals. The promising run was ended by Nadia Podoroska.
Since then, Bouchard has won only one match in the main draw of a tournament. This came at the recently concluded Guadalajara Open where she defeated Kayla Day in the round of 64. Bouchard’s run ended in the following round after going down to 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.
The 25-year-old has not had a season to remember thus far. Zarazua has fared better in doubles events. She won an ITF title in doubles in Spain. The Mexican youngster reached four quarterfinals this year but other than that there isn’t any performance to write home about.
In the Guadalajara Open, Zarazua won her first qualifying match against Gabriela Lee but lost in the following qualifier against compatirot Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stand at 1-0 in favor of the Mexican. She defeated Bouchard in the 2-2- Prague Open in straight sets.
Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard to win in three sets.
