The 25-year-old has had a topsy-turvy start to the season. She began the season by competing in the Adelaide International 1. Kasatkina lost to the Czech teenage sensation, Linda Noskova in the first round. The Russian No. 1 bounced back strongly in the Adelaide International 2 as she made it to the finals. Jil Teichmann
The Swiss star played in the inaugural United Cup. She lost to Magda Linette but defeated Zhibek Kulambayeva in the 18-team competition. She progressed to the main draw of the Adelaide International 2 with wins against Olivia Tjandramulia and Amanda Anisimova. In the first round, Teichmann defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova before losing to Danielle Collins in the second round.
Teichmann began her Australian Open campaign with a loss to Harriet Dart. In the second round, the 25-year-old lost to Lin Zhu. Teichmann faced Dayana Yastremska in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Open. The former won the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
