Abyss made a different kind of appearance on WWE SmackDown this week
There was a reunion of sorts on WWE as Abyss got some time on the air with AJ Styles. Yes, the same Abyss from the TNA days but he was in his Joseph Parks persona.
While Parks didn’t wrestle much, he stole the show with his performance. The women also did a great job on this week’s SmackDown as Bayley was given a huge shock in the Battle Royal.
SmackDown didn’t have it all their way though and here are the hits and misses from the show.
Misses
1) Too many promos
While WWE is setting up for SummerSlam, they had to wrap up many stories and rivalries. Unfortunately, it ended up with too many promos. Sonya Deville, Braun Strowman, Alexa Bliss, AJ Styles and Mandy Rose all got time to speak.
While the promos weren’t all that bad, it certainly reduced the action in the ring and that was a bit of a miss.
2) Hardy’s comeback
Jeff Hardy was right in saying that he was never eliminated from the Intercontinental title scene which Styles won in the end.
While he deserved a chance at winning the title, the segment as a whole wasn’t all that great. WWE didn’t have to come out with Styles using some made-up stats to show how great he is and no one deserved a shot at the title.
WWE doesn’t have to complicate things, however, this segment did lead to one incredible moment.
Hits
1) Abyss the statistician
As Styles was preparing for his segment in the ring, we saw Parks sit with Styles, and this was a throwback moment to their TNA days.
Abyss didn’t wrestle but was a statistician for Styles, but his mannerisms and acting was top notch.
Parks signed with WWE as a producer in 2019, but this was his first TV appearance. The former TNA Grand Slam champion stole the show with his appearance, and hopefully, we see more of him soon.
2) The women steal the show
Asuka was the surprise entrant in the Battle Royal and she won the match to now challenge Bayley for the SmackDown title.
She will also face Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s crown at SummerSlam. Bayley and Banks were shocked when Asuka’s name came up during the entrances for the match, however, the other women were great too.
The match was decent enough but Bliss, Rose and Deville had fantastic promos too. It was fantastic to see so many women get a chance to shine, and they didn’t waste it one bit.
3) The Monster’s transformation
Braun Strowman threw Alexa Bliss as his transformation was now complete. He has finally turned into the monster and relationships don’t mean anything to him.
This is the old version of Strowman that we got in his first days outside of the Wyatt Family. The Fiend and Wyatt have again taken one of WWE’s best and tuned him back to his raw self.
Strowman is the monster and it will be a bloodbath when he meets the Fiend at SummerSlam.
