Mackenzie McDonald is set to face top seed Carlos Alcaraz Garfia in the first round of the Acapulco Mexican Open
Carlos Alcaraz Garfia made a comeback on the ATP tour last week at the Argentina Open. The Spaniard was on a long injury lay-off spanning over three months but he has been in sublime touch ever since he took the court in Argentina. Alcaraz is seeded No.1 in Mexico and he is certainly one of the favourites to go all the way and clinch the title.
Alcaraz is coming into the match on the back of two commendable performances in Argentina and Rio. At the Argentina Open, Alcaraz defeated second seed Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the title and he is set to face the same opponent in the final of the Rio Open before he travels to Mexico for the Acapulco Open. Alcaraz will face the challenge of Mackenzie McDonald in the Round of 32 in Mexico on February 28.
McDonald has been in pretty impressive form so far this year. He started his campaign this season at the Australian Open and got the better of top seed Rafael Nadal in the second round. He lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in the next round itself but he did give a good account of himself. The American star is coming into this match after an impressive run at Delray Beach, where he reached the Semi-finals but eventually lost to top seed Taylor Fritz. McDonald is in good touch and would be aiming to carry forward the positive momentum to Mexico.

Alcaraz and McDonald have played each other twice before on the ATP tour. Alcaraz has emerged victorious on both those occasions and leads the overall head-to-head 2-0. The Spaniard is the clear favourite going into this match both in terms of form and rankings. It will be an uphill task for McDonald in this encounter but he is expected to pose a tough challenge. We are predicting a win in three sets for Carlos Alcaraz.
