3rd seed Daniil Medvedev locks horns with 8th seed Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1 on Friday.
Daniil Medvedev
The Russian star has won two matches so far at the Adelaide International and both have come in contrasting styles. While he had to fight tooth and nail in the first match, he hardly had to break a sweat in the second round.
In the round of 32, the former world No. 1 squared off against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego. Medvedev had to toil hard and save six set points to win a fiercely-contested first set. After recovering from an early break in the second set, Medvedev took a 2-1 lead before Sonego retired due to leg cramps. Medvedev went on to face Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round. The 2021 US Open champion proved to be too hot to handle for Kecmanovic. Medvedev eased past the Serbian youngster in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
Karen Khachanov
The world No. 20 lost in the round of 16 of the doubles event and now his entire focus is on winning his fifth tour-level title. Khachanov has not been made to work too hard in the two matches he played till now.
In the round of 32, Khachanov made light work of Pedro Cachin. The Russian star defeated Cachin in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Khachanov followed it up with another comprehensive performance against Jack Draper in the second round. The match ended 6-4, 6-2 in favor of Khachanov.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
Medvedev has a 2-1 lead against Hurkacz in the head-to-head scoreline. Their most recent encounter was at the 2019 Canadian Masters and Medvedev won that match in straight sets.
Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in three sets.
