Top seed Ons Jabeur faces an upbeat Linda Noskova in the semifinals of the Adelaide International 1 on Saturday.
It has been a compact display thus far from the world No. 2. She has had to fight hard in a few sets but never has she looked in real discomfort.
After receiving a first-round bye, Jabeur faced Romania’s Sorana Cirstea. The latter fought fire with fire in the first set but couldn’t get the better of the Tunisian star. The second set was all about Jabeur as she dominated proceedings and won the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. In the quarterfinals, Jabeur was given a tough fight by Marta Kostyuk. However, the 29-year-old managed to win two competitive sets 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 to sail into the semis.
The teenager has been phenomenal in the tournament thus far. She has come all the way from the qualifiers and made tennis fans notice her brilliance.
In the round of 32, she gave a taste of what’s in store as she edged third seed Daria Kasatkina in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3. The round of 16 encounter against Claire Liu turned out to be a one-sided affair as Noskova won 6-2, 6-2. The talented player from the Czech Republic managed to pull off another huge upset in the quarterfinals as she defeated former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in three sets. This is no mean feat considering Adelaide International is just her sixth appearance in the main draw of a WTA Tour-level event. The match ended 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (8-6) in favor of the youngster.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Ons Jabeur to win in three sets.
