South Korea’s Soon-woo Kwon takes on Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in the finals of the Adelaide International 2 on Saturday.
The 25-year-old has been quite impressive in the tournament so far. He has shown a lot of grit and determination and will hope to climb the final step on Saturday.
He defeated Vasek Pospisil and Tomas Machac in the two qualifying matches. In the round of 32, he once again defeated Machac. In the round of 16, Soon-woo Kwon produced a stunning upset as she got the better of second seed Pablo Carreno Busta 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The 25-year-old made light work of Mikael Ymer in the quarterfinals, winning the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Kwon defeated the talented Jack Draper in a slugfest in the semis 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (2-7), 6-3.
The 4th seed has made good use of his experience en route to the finals. His campaign began in the round of 16 after receiving a bye in the first round.
Bautista Agut got the better of Robin Haase in the round of 16. The Spaniard followed it up with a dominating win against compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the 34-year-old defeated home favorite Thanasi Kokkinakis in an intriguing affair. The match ended 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3 in favor of the Spanish star.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never met so far.
Prediction: Roberto Bautista Agut to win in three sets.
