3rd seed Karen Khachanov takes on the talented Jack Draper in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 2 on Thursday.
The Russian star began the new season by playing in the Adelaide International 1. He defeated Pedro Cachin in the round of 32 in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. In the second round, he got the better of Jack Draper in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. After two convincing wins, Khachanov was blown away by compatriot Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals.
Khachanov has made it to the quarterfinals in the Adelaide International 2 with a solid win against Marc-Andrea Huesler in the round of 16. Khachanov received a bye into the second round. Against Huesler, Khachanov was quite compact and always looked in control of the encounter.
The Adelaide International 1 was also the first tournament of the season for Draper. He got off to a good start by defeating South Korea’s Soon-woo Kwon in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Draper lost to Khachanov in the second round.
In the first round of the Adelaide International 2, Draper defeated Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 with a complete performance. Draper followed it up with another impressive win against 8th seed Tommy Paul. The match ended in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-0 in favor of Karen Khachanov. Their most recent encounter came last week as Khachanov defeated Draper in straight sets in the round of 16 of the Adelaide International 1.
