The legendary Andy Murray begins the new season by facing Sebastian Korda in the round of 32 of the Adelaide International on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old did not win a title in 2022 but he finished runner-up in Sydney and in Stuttgart. The former world No. 1 managed to register his 700th win on the tour after defeating Taro Daniel in the BNP Paribas Open. Murray won his first match against a top 5 player for the first time since 2016 when he defeated then world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in Stuttgart.
On the back of some impressive performances, the British veteran returned to the top 50 in the ATP rankings. His season ended with a disappointing defeat against Gilles Simon in the first round of the Paris Masters.
The American player also crashed out of the Paris Masters in the first round. He lost to Alex de Minaur in three sets. He made his Australian Open debut in 2022 and made it to the third round with wins against Cameron Norrie and Corentin Moutet, eventually losing to Pablo Carreno Busta.
Korda could not add to the one singles title that he has in his trophy cabinet but he managed to make his debut in the top 30 in 2022. He is currently placed at No. 33 and will look to improve substantially over the course of the new season.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Sebastian Korda. The youngster emerged victorious in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Gijon Open in three sets.
Prediction: Andy Murray to win in three sets.
