2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu takes on fourth seed Veronika Kudermetova in the round of 16 of the Adelaide Internationa on Wednesday.
Bianca Andreescu
The Canadian tennis pro had a whirlwind start to the season. She looked all at sea in the first set when she locked horns with Garbine Muguruza in the round of 32 of the Adelaide International. After being bageled in the first set, Andreescu bounced back with a gritty performance to bag a closely-contested second set. With all to play for in the deciding third set, Andreescu went on to outplay the former world No. 1 and eventually won the match 0-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. It has to be said that Andreescu would have liked to close out the second set more comfortably after taking a 5-2 lead but she allowed Muguruza to push the set to the tiebreaker.
This was Andreescu’s third consecutive win against the two-time Grand Slam champion. The former maintained her all-win record against Muguruza.
Veronika Kudermetova
The world No. 9 faced talented American tennis pro – Amanda Anisimova in the round of 32. It wasn’t looking as if Kudermetova would have it easy but that was exactly the case as she cruised to a win in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
Kudermetova began her mean streak by winning the last 10 games of the match and finishing the encounter in just 75 minutes. This win will certainly give Kudermetova a lot of confidence going forward in the tournament.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The two experienced players have not faced each other on the tour as yet. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Veronika Kudermetova to win in three sets.
