The WWE, AEW Rumor Roundup for June 21, 2022, includes Vince’s allegation, reaction to Cena’s return, Mox injury and more
1. Vince McMahon allegation
WWE’s first female referee, who claimed she was raped by former chairman Vince McMahon in the 1990s, revealed new details about the incident.
Rita Chatterton, who became a licensed wrestling referee in New York in 1984 and had previously accused McMahon of forcing himself on her in a limo in 1992. Her allegations were corroborated by former pro wrestler Leonard Inzitari in a new report by New York Magazine.
In the new Observer’s Daily Update, Dave Meltzer notes that neither WWE nor Jerry McDevitt has commented on the updated Vince McMahon rape allegation. Meltzer speculates that’s because the media hasn’t picked up the story, so it “doesn’t appear to be harmful to McMahon’s position right now.”
2. Reaction to John Cena’s return
John Cena made his much-awaited return to WWE on Monday Night RAW this evening In Texas. It was the 20th-anniversary celebration of The Cenation. His return was welcomed by everyone in the building and multiple backstage bits throughout the show.
Leading up to his appearance, several legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Brayn Danielson and several others appeared in video messages to celebrate Cena’s career.
“Thank you, Cena” chants rang out through the arena. First, he got emotional, thanking the fans for teaching him how to be a better professional and a better man. Then, he made like he was uncertain when he would wrestle again.
According to WrestleVotes:
“John Cena’s return excited the WWE locker room, and Cena is viewed as the ultimate leader, with his positive presence felt throughout the company when he’s around.”
3. Jon Moxley injury update
Jon Moxley has recently clarified his injury status following the comments he made after the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
In the main event of the crossover show, Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the interim AEW World Champion. However, as per Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, Jon Moxley was busted open “hardway” at Forbidden Door.
Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Moxley has stated that he’s fine and admitted that he probably shouldn’t have said the line referencing a possible concussion.
Moxley is slated to compete in AEW’s second-ever Blood & Guts match on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, teaming with Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Eddie Kingston, and Santana & Ortiz to face the Jericho Appreciation Society.
4. Kurt Angle update
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle told NBC Sports Boston that one of the AEW offers he turned down was for 10 matches, but he turned them down because he knows he can’t be “the old Kurt Angle” anymore.
