AEW Dynamite Results and Grades: Chris Jericho was back on commentary duty as the TNT Championship finally revealed who the two finalists are.
Four of AEW’s top stars were set to face off in two matches for a place in the finals, but there was a lot of other things in store on this show.
AEW Dynamite also had a surprise with Shawn Spears, and here are the results and grades from the show.
The evening started off with a bang with Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin facing off for a place in the TNT finals.
The pair have had some bad blood brewing between them for a while, and this was one of the great fights in recent AEW shows.
It was Allin who took advantage after injuring Cody’s knee but there was more to come. Allin also inadvertently bumped into Brandi Rhodes, and that got Cody going.
Brandi was able to return after getting some medical attention but Allin tried a couple of Cody’s finishers to get the win.
However, the veteran was able to reverse a move and pin Allin for the win.
Cody beats Allin
Grade A
The pair are two of the best on AEW, and it comes as no surprise they put on a show. There really seemed to be some bad blood between them and Brandi getting the hit was also a little extra to add to the story.
Wardlow has been touted as one of the destroyers on AEW, and he was up against Musa. MJF had shared a video package of his impending return, which was slowed down due to a shaving incident.
However, Wardlow wasted no time as he destroyed Musa in a couple of minutes.
Wardlow beats Musa
Grade B
This was another squash match that was expected as AEW keeps making Wardlow look unbeatable. It will be interesting to see how things develop when MJF returns and who Wardlow could face in the future.
Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian faced off against Chuck Taylor and Trent. Penelope Ford and Orange Cassidy were also present for their respective sides, but the quartet used several weapons to make good use of the rules.
There were a lot of dangerous spots as well with Cassidy being taken out of the action early. However, he was able to return and cause more mayhem with his interference.
Chuck picked up the win at the end by catching Havoc with the Awful Waffle onto some chairs.
Taylor and Trent beat Havoc and Sabian
Grade B
The two teams really put on a great show with some dangerous spots and good use of the weapons.
The Best Friends, Taylor and Trent, looked really good and it was fun seeing Ford and Cassidy interfere in the match too.
Shawn Spears was in action against Baron Black and the former WWE star picked up another win. Black barely had a chance in this match and it was interesting seeing Spears use a Sharpshooter to pick up the win.
Spears beats Black
Grade B
Spears was to win, there was no doubt about that, but him using the Sharpshooter is something interesting.
Other than that, there really wasn’t much to take out of this clash apart from AEW pushing the former WWE star.
We finally got to see the clash between Brodie Lee and Marko Stunt. Stunt was unafraid of Lee last week, and even though the pair aren’t the same size, they decided to have a battle.
Stunt tried to use his quickness to get the better of Lee. However, the Exalted One crushed the smaller star and threw him around.
Lee hit the powerbomb for the win, ending any chances of Stunt pulling off an’ upset.
Lee beats Stunt
Grade C
This was an expected result but frankly, it would have been great if Stunt got more offence in. Lee has been great since coming onto AEW but it is time for him to pick up a real rivalry.
The second semi-final of the TNT Championship served as the main event this week. Dustin Rhodes went up against Lance Archer, and this was going to be a big battle.
Dustin tried to get Archer with a few shots but the Murderhawk almost didn’t feel any pain to the shots. Rhodes also was busted open later in the clash, and that is when Archer took advantage.
The Murderhawk kicked out of everything that Dustin threw at him and finished off his opponent by slamming his head onto the mat before pinning him.
Archer beats Dustin
Grade B
There was one touching moment where Cody came up to check on his brother and didn’t want QT Marshall to throw in the towel.
Cody vs Archer for the TNT title will be great, but will the Murderhawk destroy Cody, that will be known soon.
