AEW Dynamite Results and Grades: This was set to be a special Dynamite as AEW celebrated 30 years of Chris Jericho.
However, there were a couple of huge matches on show with the FTW title and the TNT title on the line.
AEW had been on a charge in the ratings in recent weeks and we start off this Dynamite results and grades piece with Brian Cage in action.
Brian Cage, the FTW Champion, took on Will Hobbs to open this Dynamite show. The two powerful men used a ton of slams and clotheslines but it was Cage who picked up the win after surviving a close call or two.
Taz, the manager of Cage and former FTW champion, issued a threat for Hobbs to join him, Cage and Ricky Starks.
However, Darby Allin made the save as Taz continued his rant.
Cage beats Hobbs
Grade B
As expected, the two big men put on quite a show and it was expected that Cage would keep the belt.
Allin and Hobbs taking on Starks and Cage seems set, and it will be interesting to see what is next for them.
FTR continued their 20-minute to greatness matches with Jack Evans and Angelico getting a shot at the tag titles.
This was a fun match as the challengers put on quite a show but it were the champions who held onto the belt.
The Bucks, hoping to challenge FTR, attacked a camera man while the Best Friends challenge FTR for the titles next week and attacked Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler.
FTR beat The Hybrid 2
Grade B
FTR keep on impressing with their 20-minute challenge but credit must also be given to their rivals.
Best Friends vs FTR should be great but the real meat is when FTR clash with the Bucks.
Brodie Lee, the TNT Champion, was to face Cody Rhodes in a dog collar match for the title.
Lee made great use of the chain which tied the two rivals together. Cody was in a world of hurt early on but there was a lot of interference in this clash.
Arn Anderson, John Silver and Alex Reynolds all came out but it was Cody who picked up the win and regained his title.
Dustin Rhodes, Brandi and Anderson helped Cody celebrate as the Dark Order were left shocked.
Cody then added that the TNT challenge is back next week with Orange Cassidy getting a crack at the gold.
Cody beats Lee
Grade A
This was another one of those incredible matches that AEW isn’t afraid to put on and the two stars did a great job.
Lee losing the title makes things tough for him as the leader of the Order but Cody vs Cassidy should be a cracker next week.
Serena Deeb took on AEW Women’s title contender Big Swole in the next match of the evening.
The two women put on quite a show as they exchanged several blows and hits but it was Swole who picked up the win and continued her rise up the rankings.
Swole beats Deeb
Grade B
Swole looks to be in the form of her life but she still isn’t the no.1 contender for Hikaru Shida’s belt.
It will be interesting to see what this does happen but Deeb also looked good despite taking the loss.
The main event was supposed to be a celebration of Chris Jericho and his 30 years in the world of wrestling.
It turned out to be a match featuring Jericho and Jake Hager taking on Luther and Serpentico.
Jericho had faced the pair in Japan but this was supposed to something special on AEW. Jericho got the win in the end as the fans celebrated on AEW.
However, MJF came out with a clown and a gift for Jericho. Jericho then blasted the clown and destroyed the gift too, a picture of MJF, before ending the show laughing.
Jericho and Hager win
Grade A
The match could have been a little better but this was still a fine performance, especially from Luther.
Jericho and MJF should also meet in the future and the ending was perfect as MJF continued being the top heel on AEW, at least.
