AEW Dynamite results, winners, grades and reaction: While Blood & Guts was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, this week’s show had a lot to offer.
Matt Hardy and Brodie Lee made their AEW Dynamite debuts last week, and there was more to come from them.
There were a couple of big matches on show too with Kenny Omega defending his AAA title against Sammy Guevara of the Inner Circle.
The American Nightmare faced off against Jimmy Havoc to open this week’s AEW Dynamite.
Chris Jericho and the rest of the inner circle watched from backstage. The match went back and forth but Rhodes took control during the latter stages.
He hit a couple of Cross Rhodes to win the tough match and Jake Roberts later appeared on video and challenged Rhodes to a match against Lance Archer.
Rhodes beats Havoc
Grade B
Rhodes and Havoc looked impressive in the ring, and this wasn’t as straight forward a win for Rhodes as many would have expected.
It was great for Roberts to have a segment as Archer should be facing Rhodes sooner rather than later.
Darby Allin faced Kip Sabian in what should have been an excellent match between two young guns on AEW.
The match went back and forth with Sabian taking control after Allin crashed into the barricades. However, Allin then hit a stunner for a near fall before picking up the win with a leg lock.
Allin beats Sabian
Grade B
The match certainly could have been better but again, this was another close match and it was right to give Allin the win.
He is one of the rising stars in AEW and has a bright future in the company.
Jake Hager didn’t waste time as he absolutely destroyed Chico Adams. The Inner Circle member refused to break a hold and that allowed Jon Moxley to come into the ring.
Moxley hit Hager with the Paradigm shift but Hager than got hold of the champion with an ankle lock.
However, Moxley was able to break free and challenged Hager to a fight.
Hager beats Adams
Grade A
Hager seems set for a title run and it will be interesting to see how he does against Moxley.
Moxley hasn’t had the belt for too long but would be it too early for Hager to become the new champion?
Brodie Lee made a surprise reveal as the Exalted One last week, and was in action against QT Marshall.
Lee might not have been in action for months, but that didn’t show as this was another dominant display.
The former WWE star easily won the match but also offered Marshall the chance to join the Dark Order.
Lee beats Marshall
Grade B
This was the near-perfect wrestling debut for Lee as AEW made him look unbeatable. Christopher Daniels challenged Lee to a match, but Lee’s decision to offer Marshall a chance at the Dark Order is an interesting development.
Kenny Omega put up his AAA Mega Campeon title on the line against the Inner Circle’s Sammy Guevara.
This was a great match as Guevara targetted Omega’s surgically repaired hand time and again. Both stars had great spots in the match and it was a back and forth contest.
Guevara was dominating the early going but lost control when he tried to hit a moonsault. Omega tried to get going again but Sammy was back at it.
The final moments of the match saw Omega hit a couple of V-Triggers before picking up the win with a J-Driller.
Omega beats Guevara
Grade A
The title was never going to change hands on AEW but both stars put on a quite a show. Guevara looked excellent as he targeted a weak spot and also put in some high-flying moves.
Omega was great in the ring, as he usually is, and the pair should fight more often.
Chris Jericho came out in the ring to speak about Hardy’s appearance last week. Le Champion also cut out a promo to Hardy’s drone, Vanguard 1.
Hardy then joined Le Champion in the ring and claimed he was 3000 years old while Jericho countered that this was the same man he knew for over two decades.
The veterans went back and forth before Jericho smacked Hardy in the mouth. Hardy took him down with one blow before Guevara came out to attack Hardy.
However, Rhodes and Omega were ready with the steel chairs to make the save.
Grade A
The promo skills of both stars was in show as only Jericho could have put one over a flying drone.
Hardy and Jericho looked great as words flew inside an empty stadium, however, the ending of this segment could have been a little better.
