A Fan shares about the time when Owen Hart won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship

Owen Hart is one of the historical names in the wrestling industry and the Hart family. He has worked for several promotions, including Stampede Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, WCW and even WWF.

Owen Hart is one of the all-time greats in pro wrestling

Owen was a one-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion, a two-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, a one-time WWF European Champion, and a four-time WWF World Tag team Champion. In addition, he was widely regarded as one of the company’s best in-ring performers.

A fan recently shared on Twitter about the time when Owen created history by becoming the first non-Japanese to win the title. He defeated Hiroshi Hase to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Hart died due to a tragic incident that happened during the show. During WWF’s Over the Edge event on May 23. 1999 Hart was about to do an entrance from the rafters of the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri when his lowering equipment malfunctioned, and he fell into the ring. 

Former WWE Champion praises AEW for new Owen Hart Foundation Tournament

Hart is being honoured in a tournament for the very first time. However, wrestling legend Mick Foley didn’t reveal how happy he was with AEW for giving Hart this honour.

Foley appeared on the most recent Throwing Down with Renee and Miesha podcast. During the interview, Foley was asked about how he felt about the tournament, and he said “delighted.”

“I like what AEW is doing. I love the idea of honouring Owen Hart. It’s way overdue. I know that means a lot to people, like [FTR]. The Owen Hart Tournament? Man, it’s a beautiful thing. I think that they should do it every week. I mean, this whole Forbidden Door concept where partners get to wrestle partners? It’s pretty cool,” Foley said. [18:57 onwards]
