‘BROKEN’ Matt my most enjoyable character claims AEW Superstar Hardy
During a Fan Q&A on Twitter, AEW Superstar Matt Hardy has claimed that he enjoys playing his ‘BROKEN’ character the most.
In his long and illustrious career as a professional wrestler, Hardy has had many gimmicks. From his “Version 1” persona on WWE, to the “BROKEN” gimmick, to his current “Big Money” Matt character on AEW, the veteran has donned various roles and enjoyed varying degrees of success.
But Hardy has now revealed that he found the “BROKEN” persona the most enjoyable to work.

Hardy first debuted the “BROKEN” gimmick in 2016 on Impact Wrestling leading to the famous “Final Deletion Match” against ‘Brother Nero’ Jeff Hardy. Having carried that gimmick after leaving Impact, Hardy used it as his appearances on ROH and briefly on WWE as well, where he was rebranded as “WOKEN” Matt Hardy.
Hardy re-debuted the character on his debut in AEW in March 2020 but the lack of live audience due to the pandemic meant it didn’t land as expected.
Currently, Hardy has switched to his “Big Money” Matt persona where he is focused on managing Private Party. Recently, he also joined forces with The Butcher and The Blade, to further expand his stable that goes by the name “Matt Hardy Empire”.
