Danielson recently appeared on The MMA Hour, where he talked about the emergence of ‘Yes’ chants and how much he Is inspired by UFC veteran Diego Sanchez.

He mentioned that he first saw Diego Sanchez on The Ultimate Fighter and said that he often used to do the “Yes! Yes! Yes! Chants”, and that’s when he took note of it. He also mentioned when he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a less than noble fashion.

“I first saw Diego Sanchez when he was on The Ultimate Fighter, I think that’s when a lot of people first saw him and he would come to the cage and do, ‘Yes! Yes! Yes!’ And I took it to note of it, right?

“I thought, that’s so cool or whatever. They wanted me to be so over the top. I was an underdog who inexplicably won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in less than noble fashion and they just wanted me to be super excited about it and a little bit annoying.

Bryan Danielson never thought of “Yes” chants becoming so famous

Danielson initially used the Yes chants as a heel with all his beard look and less confidence. Still, eventually, his career shifted towards becoming a fan-favourite with his one-word mantra.

“The first thing I thought of was, ‘Man if I really took that over the top, it could be a lot of fun.’ But I never dreamed it would take on a life of its own, which it kind of did.”

He made headlines at WrestleMania XXX in April 2014, where he won the championship in the main event.
