AEW vs NXT comes to an end as the Gold brand is scheduled to air from Tuesdays now
The Wednesday Night Wars are over. It began in October 2019 when AEW started broadcasting their show on the same day, Wednesdays, as WWE NXT.
And for the next one and a half years, the two competed for Nielsen ratings in what seemed like watered down version of the Monday Night Wars two decades ago.
But NXT has now shifted. The Gold brand will now be aired on Tuesday nights due to sponsorship changes with the USA Network.
And the promotion announced that their new renewal with the broadcasting will have them airing the show on Tuesdays from April 13th.
But current AEW star and former WWE wrestler, Chris Jericho, thinks that WWE lost the wars and it is good news for Vince McMahon and Triple H that they don’t have to compete with AEW anymore.
Chris Jericho says WWE lost NXT vs AEW war
Jericho was on the latest episode of the Busted Open podcast and revealed his views on NXT finally moving from Wednesdays to Tuesdays.
“This war was decided months ago. And once again, this is not a war that we asked for or a war that we created. It’s just WWE doing what they do. And they lost. They lost handily and they got beaten bad… It’s just good for them to move anyways, they’ll do better not worrying about what our ratings are.”
‘Y2J’ revealed that AEW was never worried or threatened by NXT’s performance on Wednesday nights as he disclosed what the atmosphere was like on those days.
“It’s not like we ever worried about. We never had NXT on during our show. We never knew… what was going on [at NXT]. And I know how WWE is; I’m sure they had our show running on one of their TV screens while we were doing it; we never had that.”
NXT was actually pulling better numbers and Stand & Deliver was a massive success which even brought down AEW’s viewership that day. And if you read between Jericho’s lines in the podcast, you can sense the sense of relief and joy at having their main competitor eliminated.
