Did CM Punk returning to wrestling made AJ Lee come back as well?
CM Punk made his professional wrestling return just a few months ago, his wife AJ Lee wasn’t that far behind and has recently joined Women of Wrestling as an executive. Recently Punk was a guest on My Mom’s Basement and talked about whether or not his return to wrestling led to her joining the Women of Wrestling.
Punk said:
“I don’t want to put words in her mouth, but I think that’s just a happy coincidence. I think it was more, you know. So I’ll go ahead. I had somebody reach out to me, saying, ‘Hey, Jeanie Buss wants to talk to April.’ I was like, ‘What?’ April doesn’t know anything about sports, like nothing, you know? So I took the idea to her and I was just like, ‘You have to at least take this meeting. Jeanie Buss is the most powerful woman in sports.’ You know, I think in my mind, I was just doing cartwheels thinking of my wife talking to Jeanie Buss. I thought that was super cool.”
“They had a great conversation and Jeanie was just, you know, trying to kickstart WOW and it really just kind of fit into the stuff that April’s doing: writing, producing. So it really was just an idea presented to her that I think opened her up to, ‘Oh, shit. This is actually perfect. I can help the next generation of female wrestlers, with the creative side of stuff and I don’t have to get concussed.’ Like it’s excellent, so it really fits what she’s doing in her wheelhouse. I’m super stoked she’s doing it.”
Punk has made it clear that it was nothing but a coincidence. It was the owner of Women of Wrestling, Jeanie Buss who led Lee to join the promotion. Punk revealed that Lee was pleased with the idea that she would help the next generation of female wrestlers. She was also keen on not getting beat up in the ring and just work from the outside.
How did CM Punk react to AJ Lee joining Women of Wrestling?
It was announced recently that Lee will be returning as a color commentator and the executive producer of Women of Wrestling when the promotion relaunches on CBS. Punk was seemingly proud of Lee’s next move and felt like it was the perfect spot for her.
He made it known that he was very excited for her. Lee will have the chance to foster the young female wrestlers and as per her husband she fits perfectly for the role handed to her.
The Women of Wrestling will officially be launching in the fall of 2022 with September being their priority. It will also be nice to see what Lee manages to do with WOW and how she does as an executive for the show.
