Cody Rhodes has officially left AEW as confirmed by Tony Khan and he himself
Amidst rumours, Cody Rhodes and his partner Brandi Rhodes are now officially out of AEW. The news was confirmed by Tony Khan in a statement and by Cody himself on Tuesday Morning. Cody was a founding member of AEW. He won the TNT championship three times and was also an executive vice president of the company.
Cody had his contract ending in early 2022 and he personally confirmed his status as a free agent after dropping the TNT title to Sammy Guevara in a Ladder Match on the Jan. 26 episode of AEW Dynamite. Rhodes has been with the company since 2018 and worked both as a Vice President in building the brand and as an in-ring talent. He is the epitome figure in the industry whom youngsters look up to.
Tony Khan took to Twitter and shared a long heartfelt note where he wrote, “Cody and Brandi Rhodes were integral to the launch of All Elite Wrestling. Cody’s ability combined with his boldness and his passion for our industry and his love for community outreach helped AEW deliver on our mission to give fans what they needed for far too long – something new, innovative, and lasting.”
As per reports from Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp shed some light on the issue. Sapp stated that Rhodes was on a lookout for a “big money deal” and by last Friday everyone in the company knew that he was heading out.
It was further noted that Vince McMahon was aware of the situation and have had discussions with him and Brandi. If the reports of him joining back the WWE are true then he would be the first one to do so. Although the situation is unlikely, Rhodes has a good rapport with WWE Talent Relations head, John Laurinaitis. The good relation and the hype might land Cody and his partner with a lucrative contract from WWE.
