AEW Superstar Cody Rhodes ruled out of Battle of Belts match
TNT Champion Cody Rhodes will miss the AEW Battle of Belts as he is not medically cleared to compete. On an edition of AEW Rampage, Cody Rhodes defeated Sammy Guevara to become TNT Champion for a record third time and since then the issues between the two men are far from over.
It was announced that the pair would meet once again at the AEW Battle of Belts on January 8th. However, the match has been called off since Rhodes hasn’t been medically cleared to compete.
AEW wrote, on their official Twitter handle:
“#CodyRhodes isn’t medically cleared for #AEWBOTB. Tomorrow we’ll have our 1st ever Interim TNT Title match: former champ @sammyguevara vs @dustinrhodes (15-3 overall, 7-2 singles since his only TNT Title shot vs. Mr. Brodie Lee in 2020) at Battle of the Belts on TNT 8pm ET/7pm CT”
Former Champion Guevara square off against Dustin Rhodes in AEW first ever Interim TNT Championship match.
AEW Battle of Belts is the first-ever AEW quarterly TNT special
Battle of Belts is companies first ever AEW quarterly TNT special, which will take place at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC. The name is a throwback to a show of the same name hosted by NWA and CWF.
On January 5th, AEW made their TBS debut with Dynamite moving its traditional slot on TNT. It was announced that AEW would be running four ‘super-card specials’ every year.
There are only three matches announced for the show. Other than the Guevara match, Britt Baker will defend her AEW Women’s World Championship against Riho, while Ricky Starks will meet Matt Syndal for the FTW title.
