CM Punk made his AEW debut at AEW Rampage: First Dance on Friday night
The crowd at the United Center went bonkers as ‘The Cult of Personality’ echoed around the stadium.
Enter CM Punk – the former WWE Champion returned to the wrestling ring, after almost 8 years. His last appearance was during early 2014 in the WWE.
Following his exit from WWE, Punk joined the UFC. He, in fact, tarnished his legacy during his time in the UFC.
With just two fights to his UFC record, Punk failed to win both his fights. He lost his first fight against Mickey Gall via. submission in 2016, and the second a unanimous decision loss against Mike Jackson (later overturned to a no-contest).
His MMA record stood at 0 wins, 1 loss and 1 no-contest.
UFC middleweight Derek Brunson took to Twitter to question CM Punk’s decision to join MMA back in 2016, when he had such a massive fan base in the pro-wrestling scene.
Brunson tweeted:
“Why would a man come to the MMA world from this. CM Punk crazy af.”
As for Brunson, he is set to take on Darren Till at UFC Vegas 36, in September.
Daniel Cormier and Justin Gaethje react to CM Punk’s AEW Debut
Former UFC heavyweight and current commentator Daniel Cormier was just as excited as other fans were.
DC took to Twitter to express his delirium.
Here is what Cormier had to say:
“This was absolutely crazy!!! Punk Is back!!!! What a Pop from the crowd @CMPunk.”
UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje then chimed in, following it up with a fire emoji.
Gaethje is set to take on Michael Chandler at UFC 268 in November. The event is headlined by a welterweight title between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.
