Big Show explains why he left WWE and opted to join AEW instead

Former WWE superstar, Big Show (AKA Paul Wight), was on Talk is Jericho earlier this week with Chris Jericho.

As it is widely known by now, Wight left WWE in order to become All Elite. And he revealed what the final straw was behind him taking this big call.

“Well, the writing on the wall, when I figured I couldn’t change anything in WWE was 5 years ago. I was told I would never main event at WrestleMania again, I would never main event a pay-per-view again, and I would only be used to get over NXT talent because they had to think about the future of the business.”

Jericho was surprised by this and asked Big Show if he was told this to his face, to which he replied by saying. It wasn’t by Vince McMahon, but someone with a top floor office.

Wight said that he was disappointed by the news as he could not contribute as much as he wanted to. But he maintains that he was still ‘company-oriented’.

Big Show says he left WWE because he was stifled there

He is right in saying that weren’t many options 5 years back, but now that there is AEW, it’s good seeing him at a place where he can be a main-eventer.

Wight then mentioned how he worked on his fitness to get 6-pack abs and still he was overlooked by the promotion.

He put this down to ‘business’ and explained that WWE considers wrestlers as algorithms and works towards making the most money instead of doing what suits a certain wrestler’s career the most.

“But you know how the pressures are there… ‘What do I have to do to get recognized? What do I gotta do to be back in the mix? Why am I not in the mix? And that’s just upper-level decisions. You’re a number, you’re an algorithm. And they are going to see what makes everything else make the most money possible. It’s not necessarily for your career benefit, it’s for who they think should be somewhere…”

Both Jericho and Wight are at AEW now and the big man would be hoping he does as good as ‘Y2J’ has done for himself there.
