Joey Janela reacted to the latest WWE releases which came in the middle of SmackDown
AEW star Joey Janela slammed into WWE regarding their latest releases, which came during the broadcast of SmackDown.
WWE has been on a crazy mission of trimming its roster and has made cuts every month, it seems, since WrestleMania.
They have let go of former champion Braun Strowman while many stars, such as Aleister Black, have made their way to AEW.
WWE cut several NXT talents this time around, and Fightful were the first to report it. The big names included Bronson Reed, Jake Atlas and Mercedes Martinez, and NXT seems to be bare bones for now.
While WWE has cut many stars in the past, the timing of this was really shocking. Normally they do it after a show but the news breaking out in the middle of SmackDown left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth.
Many WWE stars tweeted how heartbroken they were with the releases but Janela didn’t mince his words and called this entire episode embarrassing.
The list of all the stars released now was shared by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp. While it didn’t have some shock names such as Strowman or Black, there still were some quality veterans that WWE cut.
Mercedes Martinez was in Retribution and even fought for the NXT title while Bobby Fish was part of the hugely successful Undisputed Era.
The other names were up and comers in NXT such as Leon Ruff, Tyler Rust and Jake Atlas as well.
It is weird as to the timing of the releases as everyone’s attention shifted away from SmackDown. WWE have been cutting names for fun in recent months and it is to be seen who else could be on the list next.
