Hikaru Shida vs Abadon was one of the goriest match in recent times
Last week’s AEW Dynamite special New Year’s Smash (night one) had Hikaru Shida take on her long-standing rival Abadon in a match for the AEW Women’s title. The two fought a week prior to that.
In that match, Abadon bit the Japanese and left marks on her neck. This sequence was repeated again in their most recent match when the Undead Girl took the women’s champion under the ring and came out alone with blood running out of her mouth.
This gory scene, while imperfect, was truly something that took fans by surprise. Abadon then went for another bite when he tried to bite Shida on her thighs.
The champion defended her title successfully, but more than her victory, Abadon’s portrayal as a sort of a zombie-esque character yet again was the talking point.
On this latest episode of the Busted Open podcast, Mark Henry shared why he was not watching the match. He said that he enjoyed the beginning and loved what Shida brought to the table.
However, the former WWE wrestler revealed that he missed most of the fight due to Abadon being too ‘scary’.
“I closed my eyes closed most of the match, because Abadon is scary to me, and I have nightmares looking at her.”
Henry then reveals how he is scared of horror movies and avoids all that, which is in stark contrast to what people would assume about the ‘World’s Strongest Man’.
Abadon does have a ‘weirdness’ factor to her that either grabs eyeballs or drives them away, but it is surely something different to what we’ve been seeing in the women’s division in recent times.
