Matt Hardy reveals which TV show he used for some aspects of the Broken gimmick

Matt Hardy has used a Broken and Woken gimmick in recent years which has been a hit

Matt Hardy has reinvigorated his career thanks to his Broken and Woken gimmick. He made a huge mark using this during his time on TNA and he used it on his return to WWE too.

However, WWE couldn’t get the best out of Hardy and he left the promotion to join AEW. Hardy has become one of the best performers in the promotion but has taken a few nasty bumps along the way.

The Woken One didn’t feature on this week’s AEW Dynamite but participated in a Twitter Q+A session.

While Hardy hoped to be back on TV next week, he was asked about where he got the inspiration for the Broken character.

Hardy was asked if he took any inputs from an Originals character, but the wrestling legend claimed he got some pointers from another show:

“No, I’ve never seen The Originals. I did utilize a few elements from True Blood’s vampires to help forge #Broken Matt. #AEWDynamite.”

Hardy had participated and planned several storyline matches during his time with the gimmick, and was asked about what kind of storylines he wanted to do.

He was also asked about the possibility of building stories outside the ring. The AEW star confirmed that he wanted to do a time travel match with the Dudley Boys and hoped to win the ECW titles during that.

Hardy and his brother Jeff had taken up different personas while working this gimmick, and that could have been a great match:

The Dudley Boys/Dudleyz are one of the greatest tag teams ever. However, Bully Ray and D-Von don’t wrestle all too much these days.

Hardy is putting on some great performances on AEW. However, he was injured twice while brawling with Sammy Guevara in recent weeks. Hopefully, the Woken One is back to full fitness next week and can feature on AEW.
