Maxwell Jacob Friedman aka MJF is arguably the biggest heel in AEW. However, the former leader of The Pinnacle might be looking to bid goodbye to Tony Khan’s company.
Nothing is sealed as yet but judging by the direction of the wind, MJF might be parting ways with AEW. He signed up for the promotion on January 7, 2019. He even had an extension that increased his salary.
MJF and AEW President Tony Khan got involved in a heated discussion last month. Things were pacified eventually. It was short-lived though as reports again emerged of a cold war between the two after MJF did not show up at a meet-and-greet event one day before AEW’s latest pay-per-view Double or Nothing 2022.
There were speculations of MJF not showing up at the pay-per-view for his match against Wardlow. The Salt of the Earth did not disappoint the fans though. He appeared and took a thrashing at the hands of Mr. Mayhem in a squash match.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, MJF told them that he had shown up just before the match and left immediately after. PWInsider also verified this. However, it is not yet clear whether or not that decision was approved by anybody at AEW.
MJF also told Sean that he has a lot to think about regarding his future on the promotion and whether he would make a move elsewhere. He will be taken off for at least the next couple of TV tapings as per a report from PWInsider.
What was Tony Khan’s reaction?
It was very important to get Tony Khan’s reaction regarding what he was thinking on the issue that has surfaced with MJF.
During last night’s AEW Double or Nothing Post Media Scrum Wrestling Inc. Managing Editor Nick Hausman asked Tony Khan to comment on the situation between AEW and MJF. The AEW President, however, decided against answering the question.
“I’m not going to comment on that,” Khan said. “I’ve got a lot of stuff on the pay-per-view I can comment on but I’m not going to comment on that.”
