AEW Superstar Cody Rhodes has been without a contract since the end of 2021
Cody Rhodes is set to return to AEW TV this week on Dynamite, but it seems like the reigning AEW TNT Champion is actually out of contract for a long time and is technically a free agent.
According to fightfulselect.com, Rhodes has been without a contract since the end of 2021, and it has been known within AEW circles for a while.
Rhodes has also previously been in an EVP position with AEW, but it appears that he doesn’t have a contract in that regard either as a source stated that Rhodes might have no agreement with AEW in any capacity.
Cody Rhodes future plans are still unclear
There has been no comment from either side on Cody Rhodes story, and it’s very unclear as of now about his future plans. Rhodes has previously gone on record to state that he couldn’t see himself anywhere else but AEW, and he feels that the future in wrestling is still with Tony Khan’s promotion.
Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that currently, this is considered a non-story. Still, if we see that Rhodes has been pulled out for some reason from Wednesday’s Dynamite at the last minute, then there is definitely something coming up concerning his future with the company.
The former WWE Superstar has been absent since a special Christmas Night edition of Rampage, where he defeated Sammy Guevara to become a three-time TNT Champion.
A rematch was quickly scheduled between the two at the Battle of Belts, but he was pulled from the match as he wasn’t medically cleared to complete.
