Taz didn’t take all the credit for his ‘Tazzplexes’
Former WWE superstar Taz credited commentator Joey Styles for naming his wrestling moves.
Taz was one of the most dangerous men in ECW, and won most of the top titles. However, he will be always known for his suplexes called ‘Tazzplexes’ something that Styles helped name.
Styles was an announcer that took a real interest in the manoeuvres the competitors in the ring were executing.
When Mexican standouts Rey Mysterio and Psicosis battled in the ECW Arena, the commentator proved he had done his homework by identifying “hurricanranas” and “pescados” as they happened. It was a sign of respect for the action in the ring that was too often missing in sports-entertainment.
Styles also blasted JBL with a punch that saw JBL end up with a cut and blackened eye.
Taz is a current commentator on AEW and also the manager for Brian Cage. However, his time on WWE wasn’t all great as revealed by Jim Ross.
Ross is also on the books of AEW and a former WWE commentator. He was speaking about a match between Triple H and Taz that saw the Game win in just under 5 minutes.
Ross stated: “It didn’t do it any favours, killed might have been a strong word,” Ross said. “It didn’t help anybody except Hunter got a nice win in Philadelphia. Taz was so underutilized when we hired him in WWE. For whatever reason, he was never in political favour.
“Vince, in the beginning, was very much a Taz proponent, but he got unconvinced over time by the other opinions on the other side of the aisle“, Ross said on the podcast.
He remarked how Tazz being short was one of the significant reasons why WWE chose not to give him the hype that other superstars received.
Ross said that he believed Taz could have been a more prominent talent had he got a chance. He also mentioned AEW signing Taz and how he is doing a good job nurturing talents to reach heights he failed to.
AEW seems to have given Ross and Taz another shot at greatness. The pair are having a great time and it will be interesting to see what is next for Taz and Cage.
