After teasing a major announcement, Tony Khan started this week’s AEW Dynamite revealing he has purchased Ring of Honor. ROH was formerly owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group. They bought the company in 2011 from Cary Silkin.

The deal includes ROH’s intellectual property, production equipment, brand assets, video library and more. The purchase is being completed through an entity which is entirely owned by Khan. The financial terms weren’t disclosed as yet.

ROH has been a leader in non-WWE professional wrestling for 20 years. ROH was launched in 2002 and was a launching pad for many wrestlers. Wrestlers who would make it big in WWE later on. The likes of CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins, Jon Moxley, Keith Lee, and Bryan Danielson had all been in ROH towards the nascent stages of their careers.

Many were speculating Tony Khan’s announcement to be a deal with HBO Max. This acquisition of ROH though, will only land him a better deal now with HBO Max.

An elated Tony Khan, entered the ring this week on Dynamite and said: “Today, I signed a deal. I just became the new owner of Ring of Honor!”

The crowd gave a huge pop as the announcement was made.
