Tony Khan takes yet another dig at WWE
The battle between AEW and WWE seems to be not slowing down anytime soon. The president of AEW, Tony Khan, was the recent guest on My Mom’s Basement where he was asked about WWE and their move of extending 30 minutes of SmackDown this week that will clash with Rampage.
Khan had a very interesting response and even went to take a dig at Monday night Raw. He said:
“It’s the second time they’ve decided to go head-to-head with us. I want the fans to be able to watch all the wrestling. I’ll coin a phrase right now, WYW; Watch Your Wrestling. I want people to watch your wrestling. Whatever you want to watch, watch it. It’s the second time they’ve chosen to put their wrestling head-to-head with mine.”
“On Friday, they’re doing a half-hour head-to-head with Rampage, which is new. I put my show on consciously after SmackDown knowing there is a huge audience of people that watch that show and a lot of people are going to watch Rampage, which has been a hit for TNT. They’re literally going to do a half-hour head-to-head, that’s fine. We’ll see what happens. I’m not saying for sure we’ll win and maybe the odds are against us in some ways, but we’re going to do the better show, I know. If you don’t believe me, watch the go-home show [Raw] they did last night because it sucked.”
Khan is certainly not impressed by WWE going head to head with the AEW and was seemingly not the biggest fan of the recent Raw show. It is obvious that WWE have realized that AEW have been putting up big shows and also drawing more attention recently.
This is not the first time we’ve seen a promotion go head to head with WWE and it certainly won’t be the last. We all know in the long run nobody comes close to WWE in the wrestling business.
After WWE announced that this week’s Friday night SmackDown will be extended 30 minutes. Which can overshadow AEW’s Rampage, Khan responded rather fearlessly and said he looked forward to beating SmackDown in ratings.
The fans were left unimpressed and Khan received backlash for always trying to compete with the WWE and always taking shots at them. The fans asked him to worry about his own promotion rather than always focusing on what WWE does.
