Here is the latest update on AEW Superstar Hikaru Shida, who was pulled out from the tournament due to an injury
AEW Superstar Hikaru Shida is one of the top stars in the women’s division. She had one of the longest reigns as AEW Women’s Champion, but now it seems like she has suffered an injury.
During this week’s AEW Rampage tapings, Tony Schiavone interviewed TBS Champion Jade Cargill when the company announced that Hikaru Shida was out of action. She has been replaced by Kris Statlander against Red Velvet in the first round tournament match on May 20th.
Dave Meltzer discussed Shida’s situation on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Since Shida was being built as one of the centrepieces of the tournament, so if she was pulled, this must be pretty serious.
Meltzer believes that there was a legitimate injury. Still, since Shida wrestled after the Philly Street Fight, it must have happened in Japan.
“They mentioned that Hikaru Shida is out of the tournament due to injuries in the street fight, although she’s been wrestling in Japan. So, I presume she must’ve gotten hurt in Japan because they had been building her for the tournament. So, Kris Statlander will be taking her place next week.”
As Shida will be now replaced by Kris Statlander in the women’s Owen Hart tournament. She will be the opponent for Red Velvet in a May 20th first-round matchup.
The storyline now will be that Sarena Deeb injured Shida regardless of any actual injury which may have occurred. That will keep their rivalry strong. However, Statlander is as good as Shida and is fully capable of winning the tournament.
It will be interesting to see when Shida makes a comeback. As of now, it is to be believed that she did suffer injury, but no one knows how much truth is behind it.
